Biogen Idec Austria GmbH was founded in 1997 as subsidary of the world wide leading biotech compny Biogen Idec Inc., Cambridge MA. The Austrian head quarter is located in Vienna. The main research areas of Biogen Idec are neurology, immunology and oncology. In Austria research and development of products related to multiple sclerosis is in the first row. MS ist the most prevalent disease of the central nervous system of the early adult age. In this area Biogen Idec ist the market leader. Further research areas in Austria are auto immune diseases, i.e. psoriasis.

Regarding research Biogen Idec cooperates with universitary institutes for neurology in Vienna, Graz and Innsbruck as well as other leading research clinics and institutions in Austria.

In the past three years more than 1 Mill. EUR were invested in research and development financing seven studies. Around 450 patients took part in them.

Eminently important for Biogen Idec is the translation of scientific results into economic applications. Therefore we support particularly start up companies.

Currently Biogen Idec consolidates its position in Central Eastern Europe.
